I usually go for the Dominator and Overlord Class Cruisers, mostly for the Nove Cannons as well as for the good number of Macro Cannons. Now, for the Imperial Navy, you want your heavy hitters to all have similar speeds, so having a healthy mix of BattleShips and Light Cruisers and everything in between will just make your damage dealers impossible to manage. Best to keep your sacrificial fleet in Stealth Mode while you do this, and if they get spotted, let them mark enemy targets with a scan and burn off at speed away from the enemy. But if they go after the main fleet instead, which is honestly preferable, you'll have a nice little view of the enemy's movements while you go about battering them, and keeping the distance just right. If they chase the Light Cruiser then you can start circling around, bashing the living shit out of them while they go after a low value target. Strafe off at an Angle, show your broadest side and maybe send out a frigate or light cruiser to extend your active view of the enemy. However, this tactic is a fairly hard counter against Eldar, and to a lesser extent, Tau.īut against most targets who want to close with you, keep them at a distance. Getting in Close, especially against Orks or Nids, will have your ships shredded against constant ramming and movement penalties while they can't maneuver to fire their guns correctly. I've played the Imperial Navy a shit load in that game, and let me tell you right now, they're best served at Middle Ranges.
